Icons - Question 9
In the first lesson you probably noticed that many of the statements asking you to do something were labeled with icons. For example:
Observe the motion of the cart from the moment the instructor gives it a shove until just before it reaches the other end of the track.
How does the general shape of your predicted speed-time graph compare with the general shape of the measured one?
How do you think the graph would change, if at all, if the cart and fan were speeding up in the other direction (moving towards the motion detector, rather than away from it)?
What do you think each of these icons means? Match the icon with the brief description that makes the most sense to you.
We will discuss the meaning of the three icons on the following slides.

In the first lesson you probably noticed that many of the statements asking you to do something were labeled with icons. For example: Observe the motion of the cart from the moment the instructor gives it a shove until just before it reaches the other end of the track.
Meaning of the Curriculum Icons
Brief description A) Use your current ideas to make sense of, or to make an inference about, something you observed. B) Use your current ideas to make a prediction about what you think might happen in a new situation. C) Observe some phenomena or measure something with your senses or an instrument.

Feedback: We will discuss the meaning of the three icons on the following slides, but for now the most reasonable answers are that the top icon suggests you make an observation (choice C), the middle icon suggests that you make sense or an inference (choice A), and the bottom icon suggests you make a prediction (choice B).
